A network of 20-30 farms offers the USA Duck Team, a collaboration of dedicated duck farmers, that combine their strengths to improve the genetics of ducks that produce high-quality meat and eggs. The program provides farmers with the best practices in biosecurity, selective breeding, nutrition, and sustainable production. By using the shared data, hands-on experience, and regional testing, we will make hardy ducks that not only survive but also give great meat and egg performance in the Midwest.
EGG Laying: Based on large-scale production trials conducted in the Midwest, we have identified Cayuga ducks as one of the best cold-weather layers, already being at the top of the list of the most popular breeds for our climate. Their adaptability to winter and their bright green plumage are particularly beneficial during the winter months, which is when the demand for egg production is the highest.
MEAT Production: The meat of Cayuga ducks is highly regarded for its rich and strong taste. The breeding program that we have been working on is directed at the restoration of proper size and structure of the breed with the weight of matured ducks and drakes being in the range of 7-8 pounds and at the same time the quality and efficiency of meat being preserved.
Showing: We keep standard-bred fowls according to the rules laid down by the American Poultry Association. Our birds have been awarded the highest prizes at county fairs, state championships, regional shows, and national junior competitions, which is a clear indication of our commitment to producing exemplary birds not just in appearance but also in their practical uses.
